Cedro, from the Tall Texan Sotol Heritage Collection, is wild-harvested by axe from the mountains of Cuatrociénegas, Coahuila, whose distinct terroir imparts fresh, ripe aromatics. Master Sotolero Gerardo Ruelas cooks, mills, ferments, and double-distills each batch using generational techniques passed down through his family. The result is a light, sessionable sotol with bright, untamed fruit character and a clean desert finish.

Leio, from the Tall Texan Sotol Heritage Collection, stands tall — bold, higher proof, and rooted in centuries of Chihuahuan tradition. Using his father’s time-honored methods, Master Sotolero Gerardo Ruelas wild-harvests each plant by axe from Coyame del Sotol, Chihuahua, before cooking, milling, fermenting, and double-distilling it at his vinata in Aldama. Known for its rich minerality, Leio carries notes of Chihuahuan Desert herbs that grow wild in the region — a true reflection of its terroir.

TASTING NOTES

Palate: Clay, moist earth, nutty, rosemary, cedar wood, hay

We chose to work with Casa Ruelas for our first release because Gerardo not only has the historical knowledge of the spirit being a multi-generational sotolero, but he also is inquisitive and doesn't define himself by tradition. He prioritizes quality and uses a mix of techniques and equipment that achieves that goal.
